Vacancy Details / Category Wise Break-up
The 433 seats are grouped into four broad apprentice categories, split further into 14 discipline codes. Technician Apprentice openings (across Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, and Electronics) form the largest chunk, followed closely by Trade/ITI and Graduate Apprentice seats.
| Apprentice Category | Discipline Codes | Total Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Technician Apprentice (Mech / Elec / Instrumentation / Civil / EEE / Electronics) | 101–106 | 156 |
| Trade Apprentice / ITI (Fitter, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic, Machinist) | 107–111 | 104 |
| Graduate Apprentice | 112 | 104 |
| Trade Apprentice – Data Entry Operator (Fresher & Skill Certificate Holders) | 113–114 | 69 |
| Grand Total | - | 433 |
Uttar Pradesh has the highest state-wise allocation, followed by Punjab and Rajasthan. Category-wise reservation (UR/EWS/SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwBD) is published separately for each state and discipline cluster in the official PDF — it's worth checking that table closely if you're applying against a reserved category, since the split varies quite a bit state to state. PwBD reservation applies only to Graduate Apprentice and Data Entry Operator postings, since Technician and ITI Trade categories (Codes 101–111) are not open to PwBD candidates on account of the industry's hazardous nature.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Qualification depends entirely on the discipline code, and in every case must come from a regular full-time course — part-time, correspondence, or distance-learning qualifications are not accepted.
| Category | Qualification Needed |
|---|---|
| Technician Apprentice (Codes 101–106) | 3-year regular Diploma in the relevant engineering branch, 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwBD) |
| Trade Apprentice / ITI (Codes 107–111) | Matriculation + 2-year NCVT/SCVT ITI course in the relevant trade |
| Graduate Apprentice (Code 112) | Regular full-time graduate degree in any discipline, 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwBD) |
| Data Entry Operator – Fresher (Code 113) | Class XII pass (below graduate) |
| Data Entry Operator – Skill Certificate (Code 114) | Class XII pass + Domestic Data Entry Operator skill certificate |
A candidate can undergo a maximum of two apprenticeships in a lifetime, and the second must be in a different trade with at least a one-year gap. Anyone who has already completed 5 years post-qualification in the relevant discipline, or who holds a higher professional qualification (B.E., MBA, MCA, CA, ICWA, LLB, etc.), is not eligible. Only one discipline code can be applied for — applying to more than one leads to summary rejection of all applications.
Age Limit (as on 31 Aug 2026)
- Minimum Age: 18 Years
- Maximum Age (General/UR/EWS): 24 Years
Age Relaxation
| Category | Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
| OBC-NCL | Up to 27 years (3-year relaxation, on reserved posts) |
| SC/ST | Up to 29 years (5-year relaxation, on reserved posts) |
| PwBD (General) | Up to 10 years' relaxation |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | Up to 15 years' relaxation |
| PwBD (OBC-NCL) | Up to 13 years' relaxation |
Stipend Details
Stipend follows the statutory structure set out under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and the Apprentices Rules, 1992, rather than a fixed IOCL-specific figure. On top of that statutory amount, IOCL (MD), Northern Region pays an additional ₹2,500 per month towards miscellaneous expenses. For Graduate and Technician Apprentices, part of the stipend is credited via Direct Benefit Transfer through BOAT into the apprentice's Aadhaar-seeded bank account, while Trade Apprentices (NAPS) receive their full stipend directly from IOCL. Up to ₹3,000 is also reimbursed for pre-engagement medical test expenses on production of receipts.
Selection Process
This is one of the more straightforward Government Jobs selection processes around — there's no written exam or interview at all.
- Merit List — prepared purely on the percentage of marks scored in the qualifying exam for the applied post; ties are broken by earlier date of birth, then higher matriculation marks
- Preference to first-time apprenticeship applicants
- Document Verification for shortlisted candidates
- Pre-Engagement Medical Fitness Test
- Offer of Engagement to candidates clearing both document verification and the medical test
Application Fee
The official notification does not mention any application fee for this apprenticeship engagement.
Required Documents
Shortlisted candidates need to bring the following originals, along with self-attested copies, at document verification.
- Matriculation (Class X) mark sheet/certificate — the only accepted proof of date of birth
- Latest caste certificate (for reserved category candidates), in the prescribed proforma
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate, issued on or after 01.09.2025 and not more than 12 months old as on 31.08.2026
- Institute certificate confirming the course was pursued in regular mode, with year of passing
- Semester/year-wise mark sheets and final certificate of the relevant qualification (ITI/HSC/Graduation/Diploma)
- Aadhaar card, PAN card, first page of the Aadhaar-seeded bank passbook, and a cancelled cheque leaf
- Pre-engagement medical fitness certificate
How to Apply Online
- Register on the applicable portal for your discipline: NAPS (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) for Trade Apprentice/ITI and Data Entry Operator posts, or NATS (nats.education.gov.in) for Technician Apprentice (Diploma) and Graduate Apprentice posts.
- Complete your profile fully and correctly — personal details, educational details, category, and aggregate percentage — since corrections later go through the NAPS/NATS office.
- Log in and apply against IOCL (MD)-Northern Region's Establishment ID: NATS – NDLSDC000005, NAPS – E05200700003.
- After applying on NAPS/NATS, also fill the mandatory Microsoft Office Form with your details, preferred state, and three preferred locations: forms.cloud.microsoft/r/pw7D2cUK7c.
- Complete both the portal application and the Microsoft Form by 06 September 2026, 5:00 PM. Only one Microsoft Form response is allowed per candidate.
- Apply for only one discipline code — applying for more than one leads to rejection of the application.
Important Instructions
- You need a valid, active Apprentice Registration/Enrolment Number on NAPS/NATS with a 100% complete profile before applying.
- Keep an active email ID and mobile number handy for at least a year — all further communication is sent only via email/SMS.
- A PAN card, Aadhaar card, and an Aadhaar-seeded, DBT-enabled bank account (with cheque book) matching your NATS profile are mandatory, along with an updated APAAR ID and e-KYC on the NATS portal.
- The 12-month apprenticeship does not carry any obligation on IOCL to offer regular employment afterward, and apprentices cannot claim employment rights based on completing the programme.
- Any false, incorrect, or suppressed information found at any stage — even after engagement — can lead to cancellation or termination.
- The decision of IOCL's management is final on all matters relating to eligibility, selection, and cancellation of the process.
Why Should You Apply?
This is a solid option for ITI, Diploma, and graduate candidates who want structured, hands-on exposure at a major PSU without having to clear a written exam or interview — selection here is purely merit-based on your existing qualifying marks. It's also a good fit for freshers building their first line of practical work experience, since Data Entry Operator and Trade Apprentice posts are open even to candidates without a technical background. Just keep in mind this is a fixed 12-month engagement with no guarantee of a permanent role afterward, so it suits candidates looking for training and exposure rather than immediate long-term job security.
